Power to the Parents
Mental Health Moments

Dr. Angela Chapman

CEO and Superintendent of

Columbus City Schools

Violence, criminal activity, poor academic performance, substance abuse, bullying face to face and on social media, the horrors of public and private traumas and more are all items which can and do contribute to mental health issues among many young people in Franklin County, OH. Yet, one most disturbing aspect of this is that some young people may be wrestling with these without their parents even knowing about it and/or with parents who feel helpless and powerless to address them.

To this end, through a grant from ADAMH Franklin CO to Faith In Action, Inc., the Power to the Parents Mental Health Moments provided parents with: 1. The tough truth about the existence and status of these in our community; 2. Tips on real-life practical solutions available to them in Franklin County; and directions to further information and help.

More specifically, these Power to the Parents Mental Health Moments were aired throughout May and June 2024. They were seven sixty second audio mental health presentations which offered tips based on information from local social service agencies’ professionals on how parents and youth can improve their mental health as it relates to the areas of:

  1. Personal safety.

  2. Academic achievement.

  3. Physical health.

  4. Substance abuse.

  5. Social media abuse.

  6. Encounters with the justice system.

  7. Self-Esteem.

Faith In Action, Inc, collaborated seven highly respected community leaders to produce and record these spots. They were heard by several hundred thousand people on Columbus, OH urban radio stations Joy 107.1, Magic 95.5, and Power 107.5.

Now, just in case you missed hearing them on air, you can hear each message on this page by clicking the link beneath each leader's picture.
